About Us

My name is Kalyani, a South Asian living in Toronto. I was recently impacted with one of the big tech corporate lay-offs and currently unemployed.

I have always been attracted to all things glittery and jewelry-related since I was little. As I learned about metals and the art of jewelry making, I started collecting all types of jewelry, like rings, bangles, necklaces etc. However, due to allergies, I could only wear precious metals like silver and gold. At some point, I owned more than 100 silver rings of all shapes and sizes, and got curious about who makes these pieces of jewelry, where and how they make them. One thing led to another, and I eventually decided to try my hand at starting something of my own :)

I wanted to explore the entrepreneurial journey with Jewelry, accessories and tote bags, which gives me an opportunity to showcase my artistic expression.

This store is named after my little niece Kaatyayani. Kaatyayani means "one who is curious" in Sanskrit. This store is my way of celebrating her spirit and sharing it with the world.

All the jewelry listed on Kaatya store is handmade with love and care by artisans in India. I work with a variety of different materials like sterling silver, gold polished silver, gemstones, freshwater pearls etc. to create unique pieces that are both beautiful and meaningful.
